Anyone from MA or who follows security knows about the data theft at TJX companies. It was the first incident where the public was informed that when you have your credit card or ATM card swiped for payment, the data is not encrypted while in transit. This is not even Security 101, more like Security 01. I am not a security expert, just a security buff, so I can't speak with authority so my observations on just based on the data provided. So all of us who work in IT understand all the new regulations and legislation in the hopper about safely storing data, encrypting it while on disk. How did they miss the whole &quot;data in transit&quot; piece? Anyway, that is the take away.....its not encrypted, at least it is not required to be encrypted. Think about that next time you use your card. <img src="http://c.services.spaces.live.com/CollectionWebService/c.gif?cid=-761391850608830996&page=RSS%3a+Hannaford+Data+Breach+Offers+Twists+From+Prior+Attacks&referrer=" width="1px" height="1px" border="0" alt=""><img style="position:absolute" alt="" width="0px" height="0px" src="http://c.live.com/c.gif?NC=31263&amp;NA=1149&amp;PI=73329&amp;RF=&amp;DI=3919&amp;PS=85545&amp;TP=wchomak.spaces.live.com&amp;GT1=wchomak">

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-03-21T02:33:44Z</dcterms:modified>
